Toronto homeowners facing devastating development

"There's a new scourge in town, it's called the laneway house."

Toronto musicians Margaret Stowe and Michelle Josef face horrible consequence for their house.

THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!

See my letter to the Committee of Adjustments in the sidebar, if you wish, but here is a picture of what is about to happen to my house

Absentee landlord developer George Chiang has plans to create an eight bedroom rooming house and a laneway house right next to our conjoined semi on Ossington Ave. He has been ruining the neighborhood for several years, he has driven out families and destroyed people's lives, and this is having a devastating on our property and our quality of life. Laneway houses aren't about affordable housing at all, it's about increasing the density to the breaking point for profit. Thanks a lot Toronto.

It is almost unbearable here at 986 as George's group of young people next door dominate the space inside and out. I cannot function in my office or enjoy a meal in my kitchen without hearing a loud group on the other side of the wall day and night. Moving from here is daunting, and there is nowhere to go (as anyone looking for a house knows). This is having a profound effect on our quality of life and health.

*Just unveiled* Wed, Jan 19
I took this photo yesterday (Wed). As well as the *two laneway houses in the backyard,* this shows what developer George Chiang intends to do at 984 Ossington, my adjoined house, and what we are facing here at 986. Shocking, horrific.

"Unveiled" - 982 Ossington (the obvious eyesore above) has been covered with plastic for a year. Construction went on inside. Today, they revealed the result. This is what the city of Toronto allowed to happen to the integrity of Ossington Ave and our neighborhood. Shocking.

I’m not sure I’ve seen such a blatant lack of taste and such a complete lack of regard for the aesthetic of a neighborhood, as this. Whoever had the distaste to ruin this house at 982 should not be proud of themselves. (Notice the mattresses on the porch, they've been there for almost a year.)

And THIS is what absentee landlord George Chiang plans to do to 984 Ossington, MY JOINED HOUSE, only bigger! This cannot be allowed to happen. And we will have two huge laneway houses in the back too!!
The impact on us is TOO GREAT.

George Chiang needs to be stopped from this abuse of the system.
